Ashanti REGSEC Imposes 7 PM Motorbike Ban, Other Measures After Kusaase Chief’s Killing

Following the murder of Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azenzge, the Kusaase Chief of the Ashanti Region, on July 22, 2025, the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) announced stringent security measures on July 25, 2025, after an emergency meeting on July 24. The measures, aimed at curbing rising violence in the region, include:
A ban on motorbike operations or movement after 7 PM.
Prohibition of unlicensed or unregistered motorbikes.
Ban on motorbikes without lights.
Suspension of the inter-tribal football competition until further notice.
A directive prohibiting motorbike riders from wearing smocks, as they are being used to conceal weapons.
Signed by Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the REGSEC statement emphasized increased security in hotspot areas to restore calm. “REGSEC assures the public of the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring justice for this heinous act,” it stated. The measures follow a series of violent incidents, including the chief’s killing in Asawase, prompting urgent action to enhance public safety.
