Ashanti Regional Minister Calls for Calm After Fatal Jacobu Incident

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has called for calm following a violent confrontation between suspected illegal miners and the Ghana Police Service at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District, which left one person dead and several others injured.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 26, 2026, Dr. Amoakohene described the incident as unfortunate and avoidable, noting that he had been fully briefed on the circumstances surrounding the clash.

He expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased and extended sympathy to all those who sustained injuries, assuring them of the government’s support and wishing them a speedy recovery.

The Regional Minister urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and to respect lawful directives, warning that confrontations with security personnel pose serious risks to lives and public safety. He referenced circulating videos from the scene which, according to him, showed dangerous acts of confrontation.

Dr. Amoakohene commended the Ghana Police Service for its continued efforts to maintain law and order and reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting security agencies in protecting lives, property, and public peace.

He assured the public that investigations into the Jacobu incident are ongoing and that anyone found to have acted unlawfully will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The Minister further appealed to traditional authorities, community leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders to assist in restoring calm and ensuring that lawful processes are respected.

He concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of the deceased and called on residents to exercise restraint and unity as investigations continue.
