Armed Robbers Strike Kumasi-Bound Bus, Rob 20 Passengers at Gunpoint

At least 20 passengers aboard a Sprinter bus (registration GG 4181-16) traveling from Sunyani to Kumasi were robbed at gunpoint by five armed men early Friday, September 12, 2025. The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. between Tweapease and Mfensi, near the Moments of Glory Prayer Army (MOGPA) in the Ashanti Region, a notorious stretch plagued by poor road conditions that locals say embolden criminals.
Eyewitness Effah Samuel recounted how the robbers blocked the road, boarded the bus, and demanded cash, phones, and valuables, leaving passengers traumatized but unharmed. “They were armed with guns and ordered us to hand over everything—no one resisted,” Samuel said
The Ashanti Regional Police Command is investigating, with no arrests reported yet. Residents have repeatedly flagged the dilapidated road as a contributing factor to rising robberies, calling for urgent repairs and increased patrols.
This incident echoes a pattern of highway attacks in the region, including a foiled robbery on the Kumasi-Bibiani highway in June 2025.
