Antoine Semenyo Nominated for 2026 CAF Men’s Player of the Year

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has been named among 10 nominees for the 2026 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award following an impressive season for club and country.
The 26-year-old earned a place on the prestigious shortlist after an outstanding 2025/2026 campaign, which saw him feature for AFC Bournemouth before completing a move to English champions Manchester City in January 2026.
Semenyo faces competition from some of Africa’s leading football stars, including Côte d’Ivoire’s Amad Diallo, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Ismael Saibari and Brahim Díaz, as well as DR Congo forward Yoane Wissa.
South African midfielder Teboho Mokoena and Senegalese trio Ismaïla Sarr, Pape Gueye and Sadio Mané complete the list of nominees.
The Ghanaian enjoyed a productive spell at Bournemouth during the first half of the campaign before joining Manchester City. He ended the season with 13 goals in 35 appearances, including the decisive goal in the FA Cup final.
He also made history by becoming the first Ghanaian to be named in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year.
At international level, Semenyo played a key role in Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, helping the Black Stars reach the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
His performances for both club and country have now earned him recognition among the continent’s finest players, with the forward hoping to secure the individual honour.
The 2026 CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled for Monday, December 7, when outstanding performers across African football will be recognised.
Semenyo, who is currently sidelined through injury, has also made a promising start to the 2026/2027 season, recording two goals and three assists in eight appearances across all competitions for Manchester City.
