Akyem Akoase: Family Demands Justice After Taxi Driver's Brutal Machete Attack
The family of 31-year-old Joseph Karifa is calling for justice after he was viciously attacked with a machete by a taxi driver in Ekoase, Birem North District, Eastern Region.
Joseph, a motor rider, suffered severe head injuries and deep lacerations on his hands, neck, and chest during the assault. After being rushed to a local hospital, he was transferred to Ridge Hospital in Accra, where he spent six days in a coma.
The attack occurred last month, yet the suspect, identified as Asomani, remains free. Joseph’s mother, Diana Mameley, expressed frustration over the police’s inaction, urging the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare, and the Eastern Regional Police Command to ensure justice is served.
Recounting the incident, Joseph said the attack began after he confronted the taxi driver for recklessly veering into his lane, nearly causing a collision. In response, the driver reportedly brandished a machete and launched the violent attack.
The family, deeply distressed, is appealing to authorities to act swiftly before justice is further delayed.
