Akwasi Opong-Fosu Declares Bid for NDC National Chairmanship

Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) and former Amenfi East Member of Parliament, Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu, has officially declared his intention to contest the National Chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr Opong-Fosu, a former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, said his decision is motivated by a desire to serve the party, strengthen its organisational structures and promote greater unity and inclusion.
Focus on restoration and renewal
He said his vision for the NDC is built around restoration, renewal and a reset, with a strong emphasis on ethical leadership, accountability and creating opportunities for all members.
According to him, the decision to contest the position goes beyond the pursuit of political office and is instead aimed at contributing to the revitalisation of the party.
Dr Opong-Fosu said he wants to help build an NDC that is united, resilient and responsive to the aspirations and concerns of its members.
Calls for stronger party structures
He further stressed the need for the NDC to continuously evolve and strengthen its structures to effectively serve its members and meet the expectations of Ghanaians.
His declaration adds to the emerging contest for the NDC National Chairmanship ahead of the party’s upcoming internal elections.
