Sam George Unveils Value-Boosted DStv Packages Starting October 1, Delivering 33% to 50% More Content for Ghanaian Subscribers

Ina major win for consumers, Ghana’s Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, announced on September 29, 2025, that MultiChoice Africa will roll out enhanced DStv subscription packages effective October 1, 2025.

The move, exclusive to Ghana, promises 33% to 50% more value—primarily through automatic upgrades to higher-tier bouquets with additional channels—without any price hikes, following intense negotiations sparked by affordability concerns amid the cedi’s depreciation.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, George hailed the agreement as “unprecedented,” noting that MultiChoice exceeded expectations by offering “more services for less” to ease household pressures while sustaining operations.

“This increased value offer addresses the government’s concerns and reduces pressure on Ghanaian households,” he stated, crediting a stakeholder committee formed by the National Communications Authority (NCA) for reviewing pricing, macroeconomic factors, and subscription trends.

The enhancements apply to both existing and new subscribers with no bouquet restrictions and will run initially for three months, subject to renewal.

To tackle cross-border piracy—estimated at 40-45% of devices smuggled from Nigeria—George revealed plans for a multi-agency task force involving the NCA, Cyber Security Authority, Ghana Revenue Authority, Police Service, and MultiChoice.

Additionally, MultiChoice committed to a GH¢555 subsidy on Zapper decoder and dish kits to boost accessibility.

George expressed gratitude to subscribers for their patience, posting on social media: “Thanks for your patience, Ghana. Thanks for your cooperation, DStv Ghana… We have all won, together.
