A 54-year-old man identified as Alex Asante has died after suddenly collapsing in a public toilet at Edumadze, a suburb of Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality.
According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police reports, the incident occurred while Mr. Asante was using the facility during a visit to the area. Witnesses described the collapse as sudden and unexpected, with no prior visible signs of illness or distress. He reportedly fell to the ground without warning and was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by bystanders to assist him.
Residents who gathered at the location expressed shock, noting that Mr. Asante had appeared completely normal shortly before the incident. Items recovered from his person included:
- An Infinix Hot 2 Android phone
- His Ghana Card (which aided in identification)
- A Samsung keypad mobile phone
- Medication believed to have been purchased from a licensed chemical shop
The body has been conveyed to the morgue for preservation and further examination. The Mfantseman Municipal Police Command has commenced investigations to establish the exact cause of death, including the possibility of a medical emergency such as cardiac arrest, stroke, or complications related to an underlying health condition.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information about Mr. Asante’s recent movements, medical history, or the circumstances leading up to the incident to come forward and assist the police. No foul play is suspected at this stage, but a full autopsy and medical review will be conducted to confirm the cause.
The sudden death has left the Edumadze community in mourning, with many residents describing it as a tragic and shocking event in an otherwise quiet suburb. Public health advocates have used the incident to remind citizens of the importance of regular medical check-ups, especially for middle-aged adults, and awareness of silent killers such as hypertension and heart disease.
Further updates are expected as the investigation and post-mortem examination progress.
