52 kiosks reduced to ashes at Tantra Hills, Accra

A devastating fire has swept through the Tantra Hills slum community, leaving 52 kiosks in ashes. The fire broke out on Monday, February 17, in the afternoon, and despite the efforts of the Ghana National Fire Service, the damage was extensive. Residents are struggling to come to terms with the loss of their belongings and homes.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with one resident, Lucy, saying that the fire started from an electrical problem in a woman’s kiosk, which then exploded due to a gas leak. Another resident, who was at work when the fire broke out, said she lost everything, including her home and belongings.
The fire chief, ADO 1 Alex King Nartey, explained that his team faced challenges in responding to the emergency, including the lack of a fire station in the area and heavy traffic congestion. Despite these challenges, the team managed to contain the fire within an hour, but not before it had destroyed many homes and businesses.
Residents are now left to pick up the pieces, with many having lost everything, including their life savings. One victim lamented that she had lost 4,000 cedis and her susu savings, which she had been collecting for a long time. The community is in shock, and many are unsure of how they will recover from this disaster.
