36-Year-Old Farmer Arrested for Murder of 80-Year-Old Woman at Mangoase Near Kadjebi

Suspect Chalim Madzaton Allegedly Attacked Girlfriend and Her Mother – Victim Pronounced Dead at St. Mary Theresa Hospital

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 36-year-old farmer, Chalim Madzaton, also known as Peter Tano, in connection with the brutal murder of an 80-year-old woman at Mangoase near Kadjebi in the Oti Region.

The suspect was apprehended at his hideout in Kpaya, a suburb of Ahamansu, following a swift intelligence-led operation by the police.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, when Madzaton allegedly attacked his 55-year-old girlfriend, Yaa Tugbenyo, and her 80-year-old mother, Dakolor Semaka, at their residence.

Yaa Tugbenyo managed to escape during the assault but later returned to discover her mother lying motionless on the floor. Officers who visited the scene found the elderly woman in a supine position with visible signs of violence.

The body was conveyed to St. Mary Theresa Hospital, where a medical officer pronounced her dead. It has since been deposited at the hospital morgue pending autopsy and further investigations.

The crime scene was thoroughly processed and photographed for evidential purposes.

Chalim Madzaton is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. He is expected to be arraigned before court in due course.

The Oti Regional Police Command has assured the public that the matter is being handled with the seriousness it deserves and urged anyone with additional information to come forward.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the quiet Mangoase community, with residents expressing outrage over the killing of the elderly woman.
