28 Foreign Nationals and Landlord Arrested in Joint Operation Targeting Illegal Immigration in Amansie West

Twenty-eight foreign nationals and one landlord have been arrested during a coordinated security sweep in Pakyi Numbers One and Two, aimed at cracking down on undocumented foreigners residing in the communities.

The operation, conducted jointly by the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police Service, and the Amansie West District Assembly, was launched based on credible intelligence regarding the presence of individuals staying in the area without valid immigration documentation.

Authorities described the exercise as part of intensified nationwide efforts to enforce Ghana’s immigration laws strictly, curb illegal residency, and address related security concerns within the district.

All suspects were taken into custody for thorough screening and further investigations to establish their immigration status and determine any involvement in other unlawful activities.

Speaking to journalists after the operation, Amansie West District Chief Executive, Mr. Prince Manu Morris, issued a strong warning to landlords across the district to exercise greater responsibility and vigilance when renting out properties.

“It is against Ghana’s laws to rent accommodation to persons whose stay in the country is not properly documented,” he stated. “Landlords must make it their responsibility to verify the immigration status of potential tenants before offering them accommodation.”

Mr. Morris appealed to residents to report any suspicious presence of foreigners living in their communities without proper documentation, urging them to promptly notify the District Assembly or security agencies.

He also cautioned individuals who assist or facilitate the entry or continued stay of undocumented foreigners to immediately cease such activities, warning that authorities would pursue and prosecute offenders without hesitation.

The DCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to maintaining law and order, safeguarding community safety, and collaborating closely with security services to combat illegal immigration and associated risks.

The arrested suspects are currently undergoing processing by officers of the Ghana Immigration Service. Appropriate legal action will be taken in line with Ghanaian law once investigations are concluded.

The operation reflects the government’s ongoing determination to regulate foreign residency, protect national security, and ensure compliance with immigration regulations across all districts.
