2025 WASSCE: Over Half Fail Core Maths as WAEC Releases Provisional Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for the 2025 WASSCE for school candidates. The data shows big drops in key subjects.
WAEC said on November 29, 2025, that results are now online. Candidates and schools can check them on the official portal.
WAEC warned students about scammers who say they can change grades for money. All results are safe and can be checked.
A total of 461,736 students from 1,021 schools took the exam. That is up 0.24% from 2024. But 5,821 students (1.26%) did not show up.
Core Maths: Worst in 7 Years
More than half—220,008 students—failed Core Mathematics. This is the poorest result in seven years.
Experts say this could hurt university entries, especially for science and business courses.
Social Studies: 1 in 3 Fail
One out of every three students got an F9 in Social Studies. This is the highest fail rate among core subjects. It was seen as an easier paper.
English Language: Best Performance
English had the strongest results. 69% of students scored between A1 and C6.
WAEC gave login details to school heads so they can get student results. The 24-hour verification system is on to stop fraud.
