19-Year-Old Dies After Mob Attack Over Alleged Aboboyaa Theft in Ashanti Region

An unidentified 19-year-old man has died following a mob attack over allegations of stealing a motorised tricycle, popularly known as an “aboboyaa,” at Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

According to reports, the deceased was allegedly part of a group of three suspects accused of attempting to steal the tricycle in the community.

Speaking to Adom News, the Mpasatia Assembly Member, Karim Salifu, said the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 3, 2026, at about 4:00 a.m.

“The deceased was with two other suspects who had come to steal an aboboyaa in the area. The owner raised an alarm for help after spotting them. While they were fleeing with the tricycle, one of them fell and was attacked by community members who were chasing them,” he explained.

Mr. Salifu disclosed that he arrived at the scene around 6:30 a.m. and found the victim still alive, but the young man died shortly afterwards.

He said the matter was reported to the Mpasatia Police Command, and the body has since been deposited at the Frimpong Boateng Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Assembly Member further indicated that no arrests have been made so far in connection with the mob attack.
