17-Year-Old KIKAM Technical Institute Student Electrocuted During Off-Campus Work

The father of a 17-year-old student of KIKAM Technical Institute in the Western Region is demanding answers and justice following the death of his son, Bernard Nyanzu, who was allegedly electrocuted while working with an electrician outside the school premises.
According to Joseph Nyanzu, the boy’s father, the school authorities permitted Bernard to leave campus to undertake an electrical job, but did not inform the parents about the arrangement or the student’s whereabouts.
The father says repeated attempts to obtain a detailed account of the incident from the school have been unsuccessful.
“Why would school authorities allow a student to go out of school to work without the knowledge of his parents?” Joseph Nyanzu asked.
The circumstances surrounding Bernard’s death remain unclear, with the family still awaiting a formal explanation from the school administration and any relevant authorities.
The incident has raised serious questions about:
Student safety protocols
Permission policies for off-campus activities
Duty of care owed by technical/vocational institutions
Communication between schools and parents
No official statement has been issued by KIKAM Technical Institute or the Ghana Education Service at the time of this report.
