14-Year-Old JHS Student Dies After Allegedly Setting Herself Ablaze Over Pregnancy

Kwahu Mpraeso-Amanfrom, Eastern Region – A 14-year-old Junior High School student has died after reportedly setting herself ablaze.
The incident, which allegedly occurred on Sunday, is reportedly linked to her pregnancy after her boyfriend allegedly denied responsibility for the unborn child.
The victim was initially rushed to the Holy Family Hospital at Nkawkaw for medical attention before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, where she died this morning.
Narrating the incident, the deceased’s uncle, Mr Yaw Mireku, said the girl, identified as Kasia Mireku, reportedly told family members that she had set herself ablaze following the alleged denial of responsibility for her pregnancy by her boyfriend.
Mr Mireku further explained that the family initially suspected the teenager was suffering from a high fever and hoped she would recover so they could establish more details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
However, their hopes were dashed following her death this morning.
